Scoops Policies

Mission Statement

The South Carolina Organization Of Problem Solvers (SCOOPS) is dedicated to providing opportunities for children to work together to solve unusual and stimulating problems. We believe that the creativity, persistence, and cooperation needed to complete any creative thinking problems will empower student to be more successful problem solvers in their own lives, and in future problem solving situations. SCOOPS will affiliate with those national problem solving programs that will provide the best opportunities for all our students in South Carolina.

SCOOPS is committed to the idea that all students who participate in solving creative thinking problems are winners. We will therefore strive to make the training, problem solving, and tournaments as child-centered and nurturing as possible. Sportsmanship, team cooperation, and risk-taking will be valued as part of the problem solving experience. We will strive to conduct the program and tournaments in a fair and equitable manner so that participation by all teams will be a positive and fun experience.

SCOOPS supports the ideas of minimal adult intervention and no outside assistance in team solutions. We will adhere to the coaching ethics of the national creative problem solving organization.
