Want to participate in Destination ImagiNation©, and enjoy the experience of a SCOOPS tournament day without being competitive?
SCOOPS Guideline: Non-Competitive Elementary, Middle and Secondary Level Teams in Challenges A, B, C, D, and E
The SCOOPS Board of Directors, in a continuing effort to encourage participation in Destination ImagiNation and to promote the development of creative problem-solving skills in participants of all ages, invites teams that do not want to be scored for their efforts at tournaments, but want to participate in the program year, to become registered Passport holders and enjoy the journey!
Non-competitive teams in Challenges A through E, whether Elementary, Middle, or Secondary Level, will be subject to the same Rules of the Road, and SCOOPS Team ApPRAISEr Guideline as any competitive team. They must be registered Destination ImagiNation Passport holders plus pay the SCOOPS Team Registration Fee of $50. A request to be a non-competitive team should be made at the time of Team Registration. A team can elect to become non-competitive by contacting the Regional Director at least 30 days prior to the Regional Showcase.
Non-competitive teams in Challenges A through E will be scheduled to perform at the beginning or the end of the tournaments' schedules for each respective Challenge. If the number of competitive teams in a Challenge makes it impossible to have the same Appraisal Team for both non-competitive teams and competitive teams, the non-competitive teams in that Challenge will be scheduled to a different Challenge Appraisal Team.
Non-competitive teams in Challenges A through E will not be scored, but will receive feedback about their performance. Appraisers will talk to the teams after their performances, just as they would to a competitive team.
The Team Manager should check with the Head Appraiser of the Challenge half an hour after the non-competitive team's performance for feedback forms.
Non-competitive Elementary, Middle, or Secondary Level teams in Challenges A through E will be scheduled for an Instant Challenge, unless the Team Manager notifies the Tournament Director, at least two weeks in advance of the tournament, that the team has elected not to solve an Instant Challenge. These non-competitive teams participating in Instant Challenge will not be scored but Instant Challenge Appraisers will provide feedback to the team in the Instant Challenge room following the team's participation.
Non-competitive teams in Challenges A through E will be listed in the Affiliate Tournament Program, even if they chose to perform only at their Regional Showcase. All non-competitive teams will receive special certificates of participation.
Welcome, Non-competitive teams!
